Germany Chancenkarte

Germany Chancenkarte (Opportunity Card) Program Overview

The Germany Chancenkarte (Opportunity Card) is a points based immigration scheme designed to attract qualified skilled workers from non EU countries to fill labor shortages in the German labor market. The program allows eligible applicants to receive a residence permit for employment purposes based on a points assessment that evaluates skills, qualifications, language ability, work experience and labor market demand.

The Opportunity Card aims to simplify and streamline the process for in demand professionals to enter and work in Germany, helping both applicants and employers bridge skills gaps while supporting Germany’s economic growth.

WHY Germany Chancenkarte?

The Chancenkarte provides a clear pathway to legal employment and residence in Germany without requiring a prior job offer before applying. By using a transparent points system tied to labor market needs, it enables skilled workers to demonstrate their employability and receive support in securing employment.

Successful applicants gain the right to live and work in Germany, access German social systems and integrate into the local workforce. The program suits professionals seeking to relocate to a strong economy with high living standards, comprehensive employment protections and opportunities for career growth.

Program Benefits

ELIGIBILITY & REQUIREMENTS

To qualify for the Chancenkarte, applicants must meet specific criteria across a points system that typically considers:

  1. Educational Qualifications: Recognized degrees or equivalent certifications relevant to German standards.
  2. Work Experience: Relevant professional experience in an occupation with German labor demand.
  3. German Language Skills: Proficiency in German at defined levels, depending on occupation and points requirements. For some highly in demand occupations where German language skills are less critical (like IT or STEM fields), English proficiency may be accepted temporarily, but applicants still benefit from learning German to maximize points and integrate into the labor market.
  4. Age: Points may be awarded based on age brackets prioritizing young to mid career professionals.
  5. Labor Market Demand: Occupations listed as in demand under German labor market forecasts are weighted favorably.
  6. Other Factors: Additional points for further qualifications, additional languages, or specific work experience.

Applicants must score above the minimum points threshold to be eligible. You must show that you have access to at least €1,091 per month for each month of your planned stay. For a typical 12 month Opportunity Card, this means about €13,092 per person.

APPLICATION FEES

The cost of the Chancenkarte program includes German government application and processing fees for the residence permit. Additional fees may apply for credential evaluations, language proficiency testing, document translations and certification of foreign qualifications.

Professional advisory and legal service fees for assessing eligibility, preparing the points profile, qualifying documentation and submission support are payable upfront and are non refundable. Any costs related to translations, notarization, external assessments, or third party verification are payable separately by the applicant.
